The seven stages of the revolution:
1.Normal
The normal stage is when the group or person is in power before the revolution takes place. Before the revolution started, the King of England was in power.
2.Criticism of Existing Regime
This stage is when intellectuals begin to publicly criticise the regime in power. It can either be spoken or written. An example of this in the American revolution is when Thomas Paine criticised the King of England and the rule of colonies.
3.Widespread Dissatisfaction
This stage is when my people join the criticism and the intellectuals 'movement'. An example of this stage is the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Tea Party was a get together of Boston citizens that were led by a patriot Samuel Adams and disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians. They boarded three British ships that were docked in the Boston Harbour in search of imported tea. These men, armed with axes and tomahawks, chopped open the tea trunks that they found onboard and dumped almost 10,000 pounds (about 4,500 kilograms) of tea into the harbour. This started on 16 December 1773 when the Sons of liberty sponsored a march in protest of the tea tax.
4.Transfer of Power:
This stage is for those who supported the revolution and gain power and begins to reform or change. An example of this during the American Revolution is the "Declaration of Independence". This declares that the colonists are now independent and put the "founding fathers" in power.
5.Civil War:
The Civil War happens between the old and new regime. People in the old regime do not want the revolution to happen and the new regime wants power and change. An example of this in the American Revolution is the Revolutionary War between the Britain and Tories or who are known as loyalists who fight for independence and freedom in the colonies which are known to the British as rebels.
6.Reign of terror:
Reign of terror is when the winner of the war uses terror or violence to maintain or gain control of the people. In the American Revolution there was no reign of terror although the colonists did attack and even killed loyalists before and during the revolution.
7.Thermidorian Reaction:
This is the period of recovery from the revolution. Also, often strong leader takes power and returns peace and normalcy to the country. An example of this is when George Washington takes power and the returns the country back to peace.
